Cheekwood Botanical Gardens Scarecrow Walk

Since its Halloween I thought I'd post some pictures from when I was down in Nashville last. In Chicago, it was beginning to feel like fall but down in Nashville is was a cool 80 degrees this "fall" day. We still pretended it was fall and headed the the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, a really beautiful spot with sprawling gardens, a historical old mansion, and a festive scarecrow walk.

 Pumpkins!

Playing with the 'crows and scarin the 'crows.....
Enjoying the views outside the mansion.

Fun Factory

I had not been thrifting all summer, so I was overdue for a visit. All I found was this t-shirt in the men's section that I cut the sleeves off of. I figure I'll get a few wears out of it...
Thrifted tee. J Brand Maria high-rise skinnies. Born sandals. Vintage bracelets.
Necklace made by myself.

Thinking about making a few more of these necklace and similar earrings.

Michigan Ave Night

The other night I met my mom, aunt, and a family friend in from Norway downtown for dinner. Though I'm just blocks away from Michigan Ave I don't shop there all that much, but it's always a treat to see the city at night and walk along Michigan Ave....

My mom looked beautiful this night, as she always does. I snapped this pic of her at Monte Blanc.

Tuscan Kale & White Bean Soup

I'm always playing in the kitchen, creating meals with whatever is in the fridge or on hand - and I don't do the best job of writing down the recipes I'd care to replicate - this soup being one of them, so I thought I'd write it down...

Ingredients
1 Yellow Onion (small/medium)
4 Cloves Garlic
5-6 Sprigs of Tyme
1 Bag of Tuscan Kale ( I like the kind from Trader Joes)
2 Cans White Northern Beans
1 Bag Shredded Carrots (I like the ones from Trader Joes)
1 Can Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes
Seasoning to taste
1 Box Low Sodium Chicken Broth

In a large pot, saute one small/medium yellow onion, after a minute add chopped garlic. After onions are clear, add the bag of kale with the chicken broth and additional water if needed to cover all of the kale.

In a separate pot add 1 can of the Northern Beans with some chicken broth or water. Once soft mash the beans till you get a thicker consistency.

Return to the pot of kale, onions, and garlic and add the can of fire roasted diced tomatoes, along with the second can of Norther Beans. Add the mashed beans from the separate pot along with a handful or two of the shredded carrots and add additional liquid if needed to cover all ingredients in the pan. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes.

Add salt and pepper to taste along with any other seasonings desired. I used a tuscan Italian spice along with red pepper. Top with the tyme, and let the whole pot simmer till desired consistency.

Ready to eat! I like to eat mine with chunks of tuscan Italian bread, sprinkled Parmesan cheese, and some hot sauce. mmmm, mmmm, mmmm!

Chicago Lollapalooza & High Waisted Shorts

This year I got to go to Lollapalooza for the first time, the largest music festival held in Chicago, and it was a blast! Luckily I got to share the experience with my two good friends too! The overall festival theme was high-waisted shorts, the good and the bad, it was everywhere. The music trumped the fashion hands down!

I mixed it up with a cut off pair of shorts from Forever 21 ($19), an old crop top from my days at A&F that I got at a sample sale($3) and a mix of vintage jewelry and jewelry I made myself. The tassel earrings I made from bike tires and the small black faceted bead necklace I made Ill have up for sale soon. Pictured further down is the vintage Whiting and Davis purse I carried that fell apart on me slowly throughout the day : (

 My awesome crew...
 Ready to rock!
takin a break at Buckingham Fountain..
Icona Pop put on a great show, along with Phoenix, who closed the night down Sunday...
